Richard J. Carney

ASHLAND - Richard J. Carney, 82, died peacefully Monday, June 2, 2014, at his home with his wife at his side. He was born December 7, 1931 in Ashland, a son of the late Henry and Phoebe (Moro) Carney.

Richard enlisted with the US Army in 1952 and proudly served during the Korean War. After returning to Ashland, he worked many years as a skilled carpenter and finish carpenter in the Ashland area. He also worked with former Transark Oil and former Mike Kelly Lumber Co. until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Le Blanc-Junkins VFW, Post 9699, Ashland, the American Legion, and the "Cooties." Richard enjoyed tinkering in his workshop, either honing his craftsman skills or working on projects to share with friends and family.

He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Theresa P. (Michaud) Carney of Ashland; four children, Jerry R. Carney of Ashland, Cathy L. Scott and her husband, Dennis of Marlborough, MA, Kenneth A. Carney of Gardner, MA, and Laurie A. McLellan and her husband, Harvey of Ashland; one brother, Wallmer Beaulier and his wife, Sylvia of Ashland; one sister, Linda Muller and her husband, Dennis of Long Island, NY; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Shawn, Aaron, and Makalah; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by a brother, Victor Carney.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Marks Catholic Cemetery, Sheridan Rd., Ashland, with Pastor George McLaughlin officiating.
