Raymond Clarence Christensen

BREWER - Raymond Clarence Christenson, 86, died peacefully Dec. 8, 2012, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in West Enfield, the son of Clarence Raymond and Mary (Willet) Christensen.

Raymond attended West Enfield and Howland schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed mostly in Japan. Raymond then received his GED and attended Beal College. He was very proud of being a truck driver for Coles Express for 28 years and was a member of the million mile club - more than a million miles of driving without an accident. Raymond was a lifetime member of Horeb Lodge No. 93 AF & AM, Lincoln, where he joined with his father in the 1940s. He was a founding member of the West Enfield chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Raymond was outstanding in his kindness and compassion and completely devoted to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Laura (MacLaughlin) Christensen; daughters, Karen Leonard and husband, Charles, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Deborah Cruz of Dunedin, Fla.; a sister, Willa Christensen Babkirk and husband, Wesley, and nieces, Lori, Dolores and Lynn, all of Southington, Conn.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Randall Tourtillotte of Howland; sisters-in-law, Beryl McLaughlin of Greenbush and Rebecca McLaughlin of Lincoln; and Laura's many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Allen Cruz. The family would like to thank Dr. David Koffman, Robin, Jen and the entire staff of Kindred Healthcare for their help throughout the years.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main Street, Brewer, after the service. Interment will be at Howland Cemetery, Howland. Gifts in his memory may be made to the , Maine Affiliate, Inc., 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
