FRANKFORT - Raoul N. Godin, 82, beloved husband of Leona (Vienneau) M. Godin and devoted father to his children, died Jan. 8, 2013, while surrounded by his family. He was born June 30 1930, in Bathurst, New Brunswick.
Raoul worked as a mason for more than 50 years and was well known and sought out for his unique tile, plaster and masonry work. When Ralph first came from Canada to the United States he worked in Florida as a mason. In 1970 he moved his family to Bangor, where he continued his masonry trade. He did much of the cement work at Eastern Maine Medical Center and specialty work on the Mount Desert Oceanarium, Gouldsboro. He worked many years in masonry while in Bangor and then he and his wife moved to Florida and managed a hotel for a few years. Missing their family they moved back to Maine and he worked with his son Danny's contracting company until he retired at the age of 72. He volunteered for Bangor Youth Hockey Program and was a member of Knights of Columbus. He always put others first and will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his dedication to his family, his love of his homeland, his love of religion and an appreciation for anything made of wood.
Rauol is survived by his wife of 61 years, Leona M. (Vienneau) Godin of Frankfort; four sons, Andre of Alaska, Gerard of Bangor, Maurice and his wife, Angie, of Etna and Danny and his wife, Brenda, of Winterport; one daughter, Lynda Nowell and her husband, Timothy, of Frankfort; one brother, Cleo and his wife, Rose; three sisters, Jeannette Roy and husband, Alfonz, Geraldine Pratt and Theresa Bertin all of Canada; 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Nicholas; mother, Melvina (Divid) Godin; two brothers, Raymond and Hector; and three sisters, Florence Raiche and Rita Sargent, all of Canada and Linda Hogd of Michigan. The family thanks the staff at Penobscot Nursing Home for his wonderful care.
