VAN BUREN - Norman J. Corbin, 84, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at the Maine Veterans Home, Caribou, following a long illness. He was born April 15, 1929, in Hamlin, a son of the late Frank and Isabelle (Deschaines) Corbin.
He enlisted with the U.S. Army
and proudly served stateside during the Korean War
. Norman worked with Great Northern Paper and Georgia Pacific's logging operations for over 25 years before his retirement in 1991. He was a life-long member of the American Legion, Post No. 49, Van Buren. He loved working in the woods and cutting firewood with friends and family.
He is survived by three children, Diane Oddy and her husband, John, of Kennebunk, Paula Wyche and her husband, Richard, of Riverview, Fla., and Todd Corbin and his wife, Leslie, of Bucksport; three sisters, Elverine Vigue of Farifield, Antoinette Harris and her husband, Robert, of Hope Mills, N.C., and Carole Pine and her husband, Charles, of Preque Isle; one brother, Roland Corbin and his wife, Gemma, of Dover-Foxcroft; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by: his wife of 53 years, Alma (Theriault) Corbin in 2009; one son, Robert Corbin; and two brothers, Adelbert and James Corbin.
