HAMPDEN - Myrtle E. Ellingwood, 77, passed away peacefully April 3, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. Myrtle was born Aug. 1, 1935, in Newburgh, the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn (Morgan) Young.
Myrtle grew up in Newburgh and was a 1949 graduate of Hampden Academy. Myrtle worked with her husband at the automotive garage before working as a certified nurse's aid at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. Myrtle enjoyed the outdoors and gardening but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active and faithful member of the Whitcomb-Baker Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post No. 4633 Ladies Auxiliary. Myrtle will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Myrtle is survived by her three sons, Gary, Randall and Thomas Ellingwood all of Hampden; grandchildren, Tyler Ellingwood and Amanda Meek and husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Ellieanna, Gabriel and Abalynn Meek; two brothers, Ivan Young of Ellsworth and Arthur Young of Newburgh; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Reynolds of Hampden, Beverly Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Bethany Carlson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Marjorie Ellingwood of Winterport; a dear friend, Evelyn Applebee; her many close friends in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., where the Whitcomb-Baker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4633 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. Interment will be later in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
