Merton R. "Mike" Doughty

CORINNA and BREWER - Merton "Mike" R. Doughty, 87, passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2013, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 26, 1926, in Brewer, the son of Charles and Ella (Bryant) Doughty.

Mike was born and brought up in Brewer before enlisting in the U.S. Navy to serve his country during World War II. Mike then worked for many years at Eastern Fine Paper, retiring as the mills Color Boss. Mike loved to golf, and enjoyed, swimming, fishing, bowling, playing ping pong, eating lobster, and going to the coast where he loved to picnic.

Mike is survived by his five children, Stephen W. Doughty and his wife, Jan, of Bristol, Conn., Jane L. Parker and Herman of Corinna, Michael A. Doughty and Diana of Livermore, Laurie A. Van Dyne and her husband, Chris, of Lake Hills, Texas and Kathy-Jo Wardwell and Josh of Glenburn; 12 grandchildren, Bonnie Lucas and Stephen Doughty II, Lurinda Cote, Elizabeth Wood, Christopher Rivers, Brian and Wayne Doughty, Morgan and Levi Van Dyne, Crystal Wardwell, Ashley and Tyler Bailey; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Doughty and wife, Phyllis, of Brewer; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Kimberly Rose Doughty; his loving wife, Shirley R. (Osgood) Doughty; and 10 siblings.

Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. Everyone is invited to speak or share stories of Mike starting at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Maine, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
