WOODLAND and CARIBOU - Maurice L. Albert, 88, died May 16, 2013, in Caribou. He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Caribou, son of the late Peter and Mary (Levesque) Albert Sr.
Mr. Albert served with the U.S. Army
during World War II
, where he received numerous medals, commendations and three bronze stars
. He was a member of Lister Knowlton Post 9389, Veterans of Foreign Wars
and Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion. He was employed by the Maine Department of Transportation where he was the supervisor of the Caribou and the Woodland offices for many years. Maurice was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was always proud to point out that for more than 50 consecutive years, he went fishing in the north Maine woods.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Rita Albert of Colorado, Jeffery and Brenda Albert of Florida and Ricky and Barb Albert of North Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tom Albert of Ohio; stepchildren, Joyce Landeen of New Sweden, Barbara Conroy of Woodland, Philip Caverhill of Caribou and Connie Chapman of Presque Isle; three sisters, Beatrice Levasseur of Caribou, Mary Saucier of Rhode Island and Katherine Rogelio; three brothers, Gilbert and Donald Albert both of Caribou and Hayes Albert of Rhode Island; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Albert was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel (Brewster) Albert; his second wife, Madeline (Dickinson) Albert; son, Robert; granddaughter, Julie; and stepson, Wendell Caverhill.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held noon Tuesday, May 21, at the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Rosser, officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. After the services all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
