ETNA - Lindley H. "Mickey" Underhill, 80, died peacefully Dec. 27, 2012, at his home, with his family surrounding him, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Etna, the son of Lindley H. and Ethel Louise (Fish) Underhill Sr.
He was educated in Etna schools. Lindley was an Army
veteran of the Korean War
. After his Army service he joined the Navy Reserves in Bangor and was attached to the "C B's" serving for several years. He married Shirley A. Estes Sept. 1, 1956, in Etna, where they made their home and raised their children. Mickey was employed as a heavy equipment operator working construction for Lane Construction Co. for several years. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 4. Lindley was selectman for the town of Etna for 17 years. He also served as sexton for the Etna cemeteries for many years. He was a 25-year member of Benevolent Masonic Lodge No. 87 of Carmel, a member of Anah Shrine of Bangor, and a member of Tri County Shrine Club. He was a member of Carmel Post American Legion and a charter member of Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club.
Lindley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley A. Underhill of Etna, two sons and their wives, Don and Treva Underhill of Boyd, Texas, and David and Angie Underhill of Etna; three daughters, Celia Strawn of Bradenton, Fla., Cathy and Dwayne Goodblood of Exeter and Cheri and Jeff Tilton of Richmond; one brother, Maurice Underhill of Winterport; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Michael Underhill. He is also survived by a special cousin, Gary MacCrae and his family, Pam, Cameron and Christopher. The family would like to give special thanks to Bangor Fire Department Ambulance staff, the staff of St. Joseph's Home Health Care, the Mason's and the Grand Lodge of Maine.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Public Masonic services will be conducted 6:30 p.m. Tuesday by the members and officers of Benevolent Mason Lodge.
