Leonard J. Davis

ORRINGTON - Leonard J. Davis, 90, cherished husband of Katherine (Mullaney) Davis, died Feb. 3, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the son of Christopher J. and Sarah (Hector) Davis.

Leonard was a US Army veteran of WWII who served in the Philippines, New Guinea, New Britain and Korea and was a strong advocate for peace. He was proud of his many years as a Maryknoll Missionary brother in Chile and later worked at Maryknoll, NY as a custodial supervisor. Leonard was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bangor including the ministry at Penobscot County Jail where he considered the inmates and officers his family. He was able to make people laugh and always saw the good in others. He was also proud to have delivered groceries to Al Capone's sister, shook Babe Ruth's hand and to have taken the day off from work to see Jackie Robinson's first baseball game. Leonard was very generous and was an organ and tissue donor graciously donating tissue and his pacemaker to somebody in need.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Orrington are eight children, Tawanda of Washington, DC, Maria and her husband, Scott Huff of Philadelphia, PA, David and his wife, Jennifer of South Portland, Alex and his wife, Angel of Brewer, Erik and his wife, Marsha of Loveland, CO, Shakine of Brewer, Seth and Daniel both of Bangor; many beloved grandchildren; brothers, Ronald of Homewood, IL and Christopher and his wife, Renie of Las Vegas, NV.

Family and friends may visit 1 - 3 PM Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor where a service honoring Leonard's life will be held at 3 PM as the visitation concludes. Burial with military honors will be in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
