Lawrence J. "Clarence" St. Peter

ORONO - Lawrence J. "Clarence" St. Peter, 87, died Friday, March 29, 2013, in Bangor. He was born April 9, 1925, in Old Town, the son of Francis "Frank" and Leah (Desjardins) St. Peter.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, July 1943 to February 1946, in the European Theater of Operations. After the military he attended Gates Business School, Augusta. He also took some courses at the University of Maine, Orono. He started his federal career with Department of Veteran Affairs in Togus as well as Bangor, and worked in the civilian personnel office at Dow Air Force Base and USDA Soil Conservation Service, Orono, until his retirement, due to illness, in October 1968. After his retirement, he worked as part time business manager at John Bapst Memorial High School, 1968-1972, at which time he became executive director of Old Town Housing Authority. Clarence also served as a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 3381, Old Town, and American Legion Post No. 0084, Orono. He was a long time member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bradley.

Clarence was predeceased by his parents; four sisters, Lorraine Clark, Virginia Lenfest, Josephine Silk and Yvonne St. Pierre; and brother, John Harold St. Peter. He is survived by son, David Alan St. Peter of Riverside, Calif.; grandson, Christopher and wife, Allison; two great-grandsons, James David and Jackson Robert of Meridian, Idaho; two brothers, Randolph and Leonard St. Peter of Old Town; ex-daughter-in-law, Kery St. Peter of Indio, Calif.; sister-in-law, Bernedette St. Peter of Eagle Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 1, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bradley, with Father Labbe officiating.
