Larry K. DeMerchant

FORT FAIRFIELD - Larry K. DeMerchant, 55, husband of Carla J. (Grass) DeMerchant, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 20, 2013, at his Fort Fairfield home, surrounded by his family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 30, 1958, in Perth, New Brunswick, the son of Gordon and Norma (Watson) DeMerchant.

Larry was a graduate of the Southern Victoria High School, Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, class of 1976, and furthered his education with a degree in welding while attending trade school in St. John, New Brunswick. He was married to Carla J. Grass on Nov. 4, 1978, and had been employed as a supervisor for J.M. Huber Corporation, Easton, for 19 years prior to his illness.

Larry was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carla of Fort Fairfield; four sons, Kirk DeMerchant and his wife, Kaci, of St. Michael, Minn., Heath DeMerchant, Joshua DeMerchant, both of Fort Fairfield, and Adam DeMerchant of Old Orchard Beach; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Heather DeMerchant of Perth-Andover, N.B., David DeMerchant of Moncton, N.B., Allison and Geraldine DeMerchant of Kilburn, N.B., and Paul and Tara DeMerchant of Calgary, Alberta; three special grandchildren, Cammi King-DeMerchant of Fort Fairfield, Addison Carlene DeMerchant, and Kellen Larry DeMerchant of St. Michael, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Brooklyn Soucier of Portland; and extended family members and friends too numerous to mention.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Celebration Center, 170 Houlton Road, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, at a later date. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service at the V.F.W. Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. DeMerchant to the charity or organization of one's choice.
