CORINNA - Joseph E. Guay Sr.

Joseph Guay Sr., 83, died February 19, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born September 20, 1930 in Fort Kent, a son of Wilfred and Anna (Bossie) Guay.

He attended Corinna Union Academy and received his diploma from Nokomis Regional High. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received 2 Bronze Stars. Joe was employed as a herdsman for Ken Chambers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was president of the Swampy Run Beagle Club. Joe was a lifetime member of the Shirley B. Carter Post #4298, VFW in Dexter.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Martin) of Corinna; 2 sons, Joseph, Jr. and wife, Bonny of Hudson, John and wife, Alice Guay of Corinna; 2 daughters, Mary Ann and husband, Jeffrey Pinkerton of Bangor, Beth and husband, Ronald Simpson of Corinna. He was "Papa Joe" to 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Joe will also be remembered as well by dear family friends, Dean and Jane Weeks.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 22nd, with the Rev. Terrance McKinley officiating. A military committal will be held in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Shirley B.
