MILLINOCKET - Joseph A. Manzo, 84, passed away April 14, 2013, at a Millinocket health care facility. He was born July 3, 1928, in Millinocket, the son of Eugene and Mary (Moscone) Manzo.
Joe grew up in Millinocket and attended local schools. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army
, being stationed in Germany most of that time. After his discharge he went to work at Great Northern Paper as a tin knocker. Joe did other jobs as well, such as a police officer
in East Millinocket, carpentry work, as well as for the Public Works department in the town of Millinocket. He loved to just putter; creating lighthouses was his favorite thing to do.
Joe is survived by five children, Mary Ann Leino and husband, Frank, Karen Deschaine and husband, Brenton, Heidi Berryman and husband, Bruce, Joseph Manzo Jr. and Shane Manzo; brothers, Eugene Jr., Angelo, Fred, Robert and Paul; sister, Carmen Doe; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by brothers, Nat, Johnny, Carl and John; sisters, Effie, Esther, Dolly and Barbara; and the love of his life, Lucy, his first wife.
The family will gather 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, for a procession to a Mass of Christian burial, which will be celebrated 11 a.m. at St. Martin's Catholic Church of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev.
