John Edward "Jack" MacNair Jr.

HOULTON - John "Jack" Edward MacNair Jr. died Feb. 1, 2013. Jack was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Houlton, one of seven children of John and Myrtle (Kelley) MacNair.

Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on LST 582 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II from 1943 to 1946. After the war he returned to Houlton where he met and married his beautiful bride, Merial Harmon Burnham, whom he fondly called "Butch," in August 1948. They lived happily together in Houlton for 51 years until her death in May 1999. Jack worked for Bangor & Aroostook Railroad as a fireman and an engineer for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He loved the Maine woods and was an avid hunter, fisherman and canoer. If he wasn't working or playing baseball/softball, you can bet he was at the family camp in the Haynesville woods. Jack was a good and hardworking man who loved and was dedicated to his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Lynne; son, John "Jay" III and his wife; grandson, Robert McIntosh; two great-grandsons; nephew, John Mayol, who lived with Jack and Merial after John's parents died, and his wife; brother, Robert; many nieces and nephews.
