Jerome F. Sanford

HAMPDEN - Jerome F. Sanford passed away peacefully on June 9, 2013 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's Disease. Jerome was born June 19, 1924, in Bangor, the son of George and Frances Sanford.

After graduating from Hampden Academy, Jerome entered the Army, serving during World War II, in Co. B, 314th Infantry. Jerome received three battle stars and a Purple Heart after being wounded while fighting in northern France. After being discharged from the Army, he graduated from Bangor Maine School of Commerce. Jerome worked for Sunshine Biscuit Company for 34 years. He was a member of the Bangor Grange for more than 50 years, as well as the State and National Grange.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was predeceased by his daughter, Linda and brother, George. Jerome is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie (Chase) Sanford of Hampden; his sister, Irene Carlton; son-in-law, Harold Foss and his wife, Sheila; special grandsons, Mitchell Foss and Matthew Foss and wife, Ginny; and two special great-grandchildren, Sean and Abby.

A funeral service celebrating Jerome's life will be held noon, Friday, June 14, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon. Interment with military honors will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
