He participated in extensive combat missions while in the 172nd Stryker Brigade during the Iraqi Conflict. He served proudly earning high honors and many achievements during his tenure, including Soldier of the Month, Soldier of the Platoon and was nominated for Soldier of the Year. As a part of his continuing education, Jay went on to the Helmets to Hard Hats program as a certified sheet metal fabricator after his honorable discharge from the service.

In addition to his parents, Wayne and Muriel Ouellette of Pittsfield, Jay is survived by his sister, Darlene and brother-in-law, Tim Theriault, of Orrington; brother, Jeff and sister-in-law, Jody Veillette, of Bucksport; and sister, Renee and brother-in-law, Robert Salyer, of Hollywood, Fla.
