Janis Garrity (Spellman) Townsend

BANGOR - Jan passed away at her home on March 31, 2014 and is now with God in Heaven. She was born December 19, 1939 in Portage Lake, the daughter of Daniel and Emelda (Michaud) Garrity.

Jan lived most of her life in Bangor, working for many years at James Taylor Hospital to raise her four children. Later, she took great pleasure in working with children through the Penquis Foster Grandparent Program. While she enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years, she most loved playing bingo. She will be remembered as a hard-working, devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by children, Janet Mitchell and husband, Gregg, of Bucksport, Christopher of Brewer, Shawn and wife, Lori, of Levant, and Ann and partner, Dale Chapman, of Eddington; three grandsons Christopher Mitchell, Nathan Detour, and Jack Schroder; her sister Marlene Young and husband, Weldon; as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. In addition to her parents, Jan was predeceased by a son, Keith; a grandson, Ryan Detour; and three brothers, Keith, Milton and twin brother, Danis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor. A celebration of Jan's life will be held immediately following at Bangor Elks Lodge, 108 Odlin Road, Bangor.
