Gilbert "Sonny" O'Clair

ASHLAND - Gilbert "Sonny" O'Clair, husband of Charlene Beaulier O'Clair, died peacefully at home with his family by his side May 17, 2013. He was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Sheridan, son of Felix and Sophie (Boulier) O'Clair.

He was employed by Great Northern Paper for 39 years until his retirement. He then worked for Fraser Timber Limited. He served as a town constable in Ashland for 15 years. He was a past member of Ashland Rotary Club. Sonny was a communicant of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the parish council. He was a devoted husband and father. Some of his fondest memories were of trips he and Charlene took with their children. They traveled to Rome, where they were able to visit the Vatican and saw Pope John Paul II. Sonny spoke often about the trip he took with his sons to Boston to watch a Red Sox game. A few of their last trips were to New York City and to Atlanta, for their granddaughter's wedding. His most recent joy was seeing his grandson in a police uniform.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlene of Ashland; daughters, Christine Ordway and husband, John, of Loganville, Ga., Carol Coté and husband, Danny, of Ashland, Michelle Gallant of Rockport, and Nola Billups and husband, Todd of Gouldsboro, N.C.; sons, Brent and wife, Mary Ellen, of Saco, Bryon of Ashland, and Doug and companion, Dawn Noyes, of Baileyville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela; six sisters; six brothers; and son-in-law, Shawne Gallant. The family would like to express a special thank you to Ruth Collins from Hospice of Aroostook for her exceptional and comforting care.

Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland. A funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Burial will be private.
