DIXMONT - Gerald G. Drake, 71, better known as Jerry, began his journey home with the comforts of his family by his side Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at a Bangor hospital.
Jerry was born, raised and started his family in Chicago, later moving to Texas then Maine. If he wasn't running his business, G. Drake Masonry, you could find him throughout his life reading, hunting, fishing, farming or gardening, making maple syrup, Christmas wreaths or cheering on his favorite football and baseball teams. He loved kibitzing, or as he called it - public relations, at the brick yard, Nasons corner store or meeting up with friends. He was a member of Bangor Seventh-day Adventist Church and active for many years in several quartets.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret Drake; their children, David, Carmen, AnnMarie, Carrie, Gualberto, Matthew, Steven and Yvonne; their spouses or significant others, Leslie, Arturo, April, Mark, Robin and Raul; and his sister, Judy. He will be missed by 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a very dear friend, Joyce Nason. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary; their three infant daughters; as well as one daughter, Elena.
Family and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a memorial service celebrating Jerry's life will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, with Pastor Shawn Brace, of Bangor Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating.
