OLD TOWN - George Charles Fogel, 92, died peacefully May 26, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility, surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Hecktown, Pa., son of Hilda Fogel.
George joined the U.S. Navy
October 1942 and served on the USS Lexington, the flagship of Admiral Halsey. He married his wife of 64 years, Caroline Amanda Deemer, Aug. 3, 1945, while stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was discharged in 1948 as a 2nd class Petty Officer. George spent 42 years at Bethlehem Steel and was known as one of their best electricians. In his spare time, he enjoyed painting homes in the communities surrounding Chapman Quarries, puttering in his shop or working in his garden.
He is survived by sons, Allen and wife, Joan, of Bethlehem, Pa., and John and wife, Jennifer, of Old Town; daughter, Jane and husband, Terrence Tiffany, of Springfield, Va.; grandchildren, Charles, Mark, Mary Cait, Jessica and husband, Stephen, Kathryn and Sean, Barbara and Lauren Michelle; great-grandson, Landon; and sisters, Mary, Sadie and Eva. George was predeceased by his wife, Caroline; son, George Michael; and brother, Franklin Getz.
