Everett W. Gray

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Everett W. Gray, of Presque Isle and Bangor, and late of Ormond Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014, his 87th birthday. He was born March 12, 1927, in Presque Isle, the son of Granville and Anna Gray.

Upon graduation from PIHS Class of 1945, he attended Bowdoin College. He served in the U.S. Navy before attending Boston University School of Law.

He subsequently moved to Bangor with his young family where he established and enjoyed a successful private practice specializing in real estate and probate law until his retirement in the late 1980s.

He served as President of the Penobscot County Bar Association and Chairman of the Maine State Bar Association Title Standards Section. He also served for many years as a Director of Penobscot Savings and People's Heritage Banks.

He had many interests including real estate investing, flying, boating, model railroads, hunting and fishing trips, and card games with friends. Everett shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.

He was a voracious reader, well known by the staff of public libraries in Bangor, Brewer and Ormond Beach. He and his companion, Marguerite, shared their love for each other, their families and the Red Sox.

Everett was predeceased by his parents; brother, Granville Chase Gray Jr.; sister, Nannabelle G. Carter; wife, Betty S. Gray; wife, Joanne S. Gray; and nephew, Benjamin Carter. He is survived by his loving companion and partner of many years, Marguerite Severance of Bangor and Ormond Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen E. Atkinson and husband, Charles, of East Falmouth, Mass.; son, David E. Gray and wife, Lauren, of Dexter; niece, Candace Carter; grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Courtney, and Adam; and great-granddaughter, Lucy. He will be missed and fondly remembered by Susan Ferland, Sandy Perry, and Kathy Couturier.

Spring burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Brewer, followed by a private celebration of life.
