Eugene Herbert Amnott

MARS HILL - Eugene Herbert Amnott, 85, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at home, surrounded by the love and care of his family.

Gene was born in Ashland, Maine, March 7, 1928, and raised in Monticello by his mother, Avis Ryder Amnott Lynds and beloved stepfather, John H. Lynds.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, S. Elaine Estabrook Amnott; children, Connie Parks and husband, Paul, of Yarmouth, Philip Amnott and wife, Lori, of Blaine, Peter Amnott of Ellsworth, Lori Guiggey of Lewiston and Karen Pratt and partner, Ken Burgess, of Winthrop; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gene served in WWII and Korea. He was an active and dedicated member of the Lodge and Shrine.

Gene was a doer with many talents, quick to give help and share his expertise. His skills as a carpenter, electrician, and plumber were well used by his family. He spent countless hours using his abilities for numerous organizations.

Gene was a strong, hardworking man who dedicated his life to taking care of his family. Gene, Daddy, Grampie or Papa, he was our father, our solid foundation, our teacher and friend. He was a man of few words with a keen sense of humor to the end.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice with a special thank you to Ruth Collins, RN, a compassionate friend, offering support and guidance with a dose of laughter.

Visiting hours are Nov. 15 from 5-8 pm at the Aroostook Shrine Club with a Masonic Service at 7 pm. A private military service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery.
