Elfreda "Freda" McLain

MILLINOCKET and STACYVILLE - Elfreda "Freda" McLain, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jan. 3, 2013. Freda was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Stacyville, to Carrie (Bragg) and Bert Rodgerson.

She attended Stacyville School. Freda worked hard all her life caring for others. Even into her 80s she continued to care for the elderly, some of whom were even younger than herself. Freda had never-ending faith. She was always telling people that "God holds me in his hands, keeping me safe and he provides all that I need."

Freda was predeceased by her husbands, Grandville Bulley and Basil McLain; two brothers, Arthur and Cecil; and two sisters, Elsie and Ella. She leaves behind five loving and devoted sons, Conrad and wife, Yolanda, Neal and wife, Kathy, David and friend, Nancy, Jerry and fiancee, Gale, and Leo and partner, Lorrie, all of Millinocket. Freda also leaves behind three stepdaughters, Ann Hallett, Jane McGreevy and Judy Davenport; 29 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Maxine and her husband, Bun Bracket; as well as special friends, Michael and Linda Boone. The family extends their gratitude to Katahdin Health Care and Sweet Seniors for the excellent care Freda received at these facilities.

Family and friends will visit 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Faith Baptist Church, 244 Massachusetts Ave., Millinocket, with the funeral held 2 p.m. A light luncheon will be after the services. In lieu of flowers, donations to Faith Baptist Church, Millinocket, or Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462, would be greatly appreciated.
