Eleanore Mae (Jamison) Casey

BAR HARBOR - Eleanore Mae (Jamison) Casey, 93, passed from this life Jan. 25, 2013, at her home at Birch Bay Retirement Community, Bar Harbor. She was born June 13, 1919, in East Millinocket, to Annie and Josiah Jamison.

Eleanore was the loving wife of William "Bill" Casey; and cherished mother of Judith Cox, Nancy Montserrat, Mary Jordan and husband, Bruce, and Teresa Duhamel and husband, Jim. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Sara, Kathryn, Rachel, Tom, Elizabeth, Julie, Karen, Michael, Jamie and Jessica; 12 great-grandchildren, Avery, Caleb, Lila, Mia, Sarah, Ellie, Alexandrea, Quinlyn, Nicole, Ricky, Keller and Liam; and a special and faithful niece, Isabel and husband, Alec Manzo. All will miss her in their lives. Eleanore was predeceased by her husband in January 2004; and two sisters, Pauline Nadeau and Isabel Fernald.

Eleanore graduated from East Millinocket schools in 1938 and completed one year of nursing school in Calais. In 1939 she met "Billy," a singing barber who worked in his uncles' barbershop in Calais. After marrying in October 1940 they moved to Bar Harbor where she and Bill raised their family. She was ever active in community life and was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Bar Harbor, for more than 70 years. She became one of the first female Eucharistic ministers when women were first allowed to distribute communion and assist in the liturgy of the Mass. Her work outside the home included a number of years at Medical Associates, Bar Harbor; summers at Jordan Pond Gift Shop; and Park Entrance Motel, Hulls Cove. Eleanore is still remembered for her numerous roles in community theatre performances. Always ready for a song or dance, she had a lifelong passion for and enjoyment of music. The musical environment she and Bill provided gave much pleasure to their family and friends, and later to those who knew and cared for her at Birch Bay Retirement Community. Generous love, a willing smile and compassionate response to others characterized Eleanore's long and full life. The family extends profound gratitude to the extraordinary staff at Birch Bay who cared for our dear mother and grandmother with such professional expertise, affection and compassion. We will forever be grateful.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Jan. 31 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Bar Harbor. Immediately after the Mass, all are heartily invited to a memorial gathering in the Holy Redeemer Church Hall. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in the spring.
