Earl "Bill" Benner

BELFAST - Earl "Bill" Benner, 89, died peacefully Oct. 31, 2012, at his residence. He was born July 26, 1923, in Belfast, son of Spencer and Ruby (Scott) Benner.

Bill was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of American Legion. He began his career in the automotive business in Belfast working for many area garages. He opened Benner's Garage in 1956 and worked there until his retirement. The garage is still operated by his sons today. He enjoyed hunting, going to camp and his dog, Duke.

He was predeceased by his brother, Merle Benner. Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Doris (Kelley) Benner; daughter, Gloria Bailey; son, John and wife, Alycia; grandson, Shawn and wife, Susan; granddaughter, Penny Bailey; grandson, Aaron Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Jayme Bailey, all of Belfast; sister in-law, Melanie Benner of Oklahoma; and nephew, Dr. Benjamin Benner and wife, Jody, of Oklahoma.

Services with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Swanville Community Church. Those who wish may make donations to Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, P.O. Box 772, Belfast, ME 04915. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.ripostafh.com.
