Calvin Andrew Preston

DENNYSVILLE - Calvin Andrew Preston, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 5, 2013, at home. He was born Aug. 16, 1944, in Lubec, son of Hardy R. and Ruth E. (Laslie) Preston.

Calvin was a 1962 graduate of Pembroke High School. He went to work for Thomas DiCenzo Inc., Calais, after graduating. Calvin married Donna, the love of his life, Nov. 27, 1965. He was a life time member of American Legion. An American hero, he served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, 1965-1967. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from January 1966 to December 1966. Calvin received the Purple Heart Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge while serving his country. After returning home, Calvin worked in construction in Franklin, N.H. Eventually, he moved back to his home town of Dennysville and exhibited his entrepreneurial spirit by opening Cal & Don's Variety. After years of working for himself, Calvin sought a new opportunity and joined Washington County Unorganized Territories as supervisor. He held this position for 16 years until his retirement in 1998. Calvin was never idle at any moment, always looking for a chance to turn a buck. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, gardening, working in the woods and sawing lumber. He and Donna enjoyed many road trips together. Calvin enjoyed his many adventures with his great friend Kevin, one would lie and the other would swear to it. He loved a great laugh and was ever ready to hear his family's mishaps because of how comical he knew the story would turn out to be. He will always be remembered as a great man and willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
