Barbara A. Dufour

CAMDEN and BANGOR - Barbara A. (Barton) Dufour, wife of F. Philip Dufour, died on Nov. 22, 2013, at Quarry Hill in Camden, after a courageous battle against Alzheimer's. She was 85 years old. Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, educator and volunteer during her lifetime. She was born Feb. 27, 1928, the daughter of George and Grace (Hughes) Barton and graduated from John Bapst High School.

While raising three sons, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine. Upon returning to the workforce, she taught fifth grade for 11 years at St. John's Catholic School (now All Saints Catholic School) in Bangor. After her retirement she volunteered for many years at The Attic and Meals on Wheels as well as served meals at the Salvation Army in Bangor. She was also a volunteer at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center, in Florida.

Barbara overcame breast cancer and is survived by her husband of 56 years, Philip; and their sons, Gregory and his wife, Doreen, of Rockport, and Daniel and his wife, Lisa, of Amherst, N.H. She was predeceased by their son, Mark in 1992. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew of Fort Kent, Joel of Seymour, Conn., Benjamin of Rockport, and Cassidy, Dylan, Brandon, and Luke of Amherst, N.H. She was recently blessed with a great-granddaughter, Willow of Fort Kent; and "step" great-grandsons, Jaiden, Javonni, and Jordan Withington of Seymour, Conn. She is also survived by her sister, Constance Soucy of Bangor; her brother, Charles Barton of Hampden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Walter and his wife, Elizabeth, of South Portland; Donald Soucy, husband of Constance of Bangor; and her sister, Joyce (Sister Grace, RSM) Barton of Portland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, York St., Bangor. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memorial of Barbara may be made to All Saints Catholic School, P.O. Box 1749 Bangor, ME 04402; or to a .
