Angelo "Joe" DiBella

FRANKLIN - Angelo "Joe" DiBella, 86, died Jan. 17, 2013, at a Franklin health care facility. He was born May 29, 1926, in Swayersville, Pa., the son of Salvatore and Catina (DiJania) DiBella.

Angelo was educated in Luzerne, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force from 1944 to 1949 with service in the Philippines, earning a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Victory World War II Medal, and Occupation Ribbon in Japan. Angelo met Eleanor A. Smith in Bangor and they married in 1948; they celebrated 65 years of marriage last July. He was employed for 33 years at Avco Lycoming in Connecticut before retiring in 1984. Joe was an avid fisherman. He spent many enjoyable hours fishing on Donnell Pond.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Smith DiBella; sons, Samuel DiBella and companion, Catherine Edne, of Stamford, Conn., Jeffrey DiBella of Wallingford, Conn., Joel DiBella and wife, Vanessa, of West Haven, Conn., Isaac Lopez of Cheshire, Conn., and Joseph DiBella of Sanford; daughter, Kathleen Chamberlain and husband, Bruce, of Monroe; grandchildren, Nicole Dibella of Bridgeport, Conn., Caitlin Chamberlain of Somerville, Mass., Clarke DiBella of Ansonia, Conn., Daniel and Michael DiBella, both of West Haven, Conn., Nate Chamberlain of Girdwood, Alaska, Adam Lopez of Naugatuck, Conn., and Faye DiBella of Milford, Conn.; sister, Carmella Fecso; special brother-in-law, Charles Leavitt; sisters-in-law, Jacquelyn Leavitt and Sandra Ingalls; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Jonathan DiBella; and a sister, Grace Carey.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Franklin United Methodist Church, 24 Main St., Franklin, with a reception afterward at Franklin Veterans Club.
