COLUMBIA, PA. - Allen S. Knowlton, 47, of 1801 Manor St., formerly of Blanchard, and a devoted husband and loving father, died Dec. 24, 2012, unexpectedly from heart complications. He was the husband of Felicia Loreto Knowlton, his best friend with whom he celebrated 18 years of marriage Oct. 8. Born Dec. 20, 1965, in Dover Foxcroft, he was the son of Gloria J. Knowlton of Dexter and the late Melvin "Buddy" Knowlton.
Allen is survived by his children, Hannah Elise, age 15, and Aaron Thomas, age 13, both of Columbia, Pa.; a brother, Christopher Knowlton and wife, Stacey, of Dexter, and their children, Ariell, Amber and Myra; his maternal grandmother, who he shared a very close relationship with, Phyllis Currier of Dover-Foxcroft; mother-in-law, Mary J. Loreto of Columbia, Pa.; four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Allen was employed for 18 years at A & L Doors and Specialist, Columbia, Pa., where he was the service manager. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence on the flight deck. He was a 1984 graduate of Piscataquis Community High School, where he lettered in soccer, basketball and baseball. An avid sports fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, he held a wealth of sports knowledge. He was a member of the Foresters of America. He attended St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia, Pa. Having grown up in Central Maine, he was a very skilled hunter and greatly looked forward to his annual hunting trip to Clearfield County with his friends. The light of his life were his wife and children. He was a big fan of Lancaster Catholic High School sports, where his daughter Hannah plays on the basketball team and is a member of the track team. He was a patient, gentle, kind and loving father to his dear son Aaron, who has special needs. Al will always be remembered for his calm manner and devotion to his parents, wife and children. He was a person who put family and faith first.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2nd and Union streets, Columbia, Pa., with the Rev. Dominic DiBiccaro, celebrant, and the Rev. Peter Hahn and the Rev. Josh Brommer, con-celebrants. Rite of Interment and burial will be at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. The viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, Pa. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. There will be no viewing Saturday. Military honors will be accorded by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard Saturday at the cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions in Allen's memory may be made to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601, for the track & field team or the girls' basketball team.
