SOUTH PORTLAND - Alice May Gauvin Cyr, 76, died Feb. 18, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Caribou, a daughter of Marie Anna "Diana" Gauvin Tuttle.
Alice was a 1954 graduate of Our Lady of the Mountains, Gorham, N.H. On Dec. 15, 1955, she married John P.R. Cyr. Together they began a family and they traveled extensively to follow John's military career. In 1966 they moved to South Portland. Alice was a kind and generous person. She often opened her home and provided a place to live for several friends. She baby sat for many children in the area along with all her own children and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting and was extremely talented. She made beautiful sweaters, mittens and Afghans. She enjoyed traveling and visited many exotic locations. She is best known as a "true friend to many." Alice worked as a dental assistant in Caribou and many years as a clerk for Pratt-Abbott Cleaners, South Portland, and finished her career as a proctor for Southern Maine Community College, South Portland.
She is survived by her husband, John, of South Portland; a daughter, Wanda Pickering and husband, Joseph, of South Portland; four sons, Bruce and his wife, Ganya, of Bangkok, Kevin and partner, Joel Waterhouse, of Dayton, Curt and Kent, both of South Portland; a brother, Daniel Tuttle and wife, Patricia, of Leesburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Waterhouse of Florida, Emily Pickering of Portland, Austin Pickering of Enfield, Conn., Eliot Pickering of South Portland, Olivia Pickering of South Portland, John Paul Ronald Cyr II of Bangkok, Henry Cyr of South Portland, Franklin Cyr of South Portland, Nathaniel Cyr of Bangkok and Zachary Cyr of South Portland; sister-in-law, Roxine Miller and husband, Robert, of Bangor; brother-in-law, Robert Cyr and wife, Eleanor, of South Portland, Roy Cyr and wife, Jessica, of Bangor; many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
