STOCKHOLM - Mary Emmeline Clark Gregory, 95, died May 17, 2013, at her residence. She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Caribou, daughter of Delbert and Bessie (Mills) Clark. She grew up on Green Ridge at the family farm. She entertained her family with memories of roaming the neighborhood on her pony named Dixie and helping her father with the potato harvest with horse drawn equipment. Having grown up in the depression, she was always mindful of stocking up on food supplies as an adult and always had a huge supply of canned goods stored away. She was better than a store if anyone ran out of anything! She graduated from Caribou High School in 1935 and married Philip Gregory in 1949. They lived on the Presque Isle Road in Caribou and raised four children, spending summers and holidays at Madawaska Lake. She helped Phil with the family business, Aroostook Petroleum Products, by doing some of the bookkeeping and payroll. In their retirement, they made their cottage at Madawaska Lake their permanent home. Emmeline was very active, she loved to take walks on the camp road and was known for her long stride. She also enjoyed cross country skiing on the "Island Trail" with friends. She was proud of her flower gardens and was active in clubs and social groups in the community. She was always the one various family members kept in touch with and was the perfect listener when you needed someone to talk to. She was loved by her children and her grandchildren for her wonderful cooking, especially her pancakes. Emmeline was forever young at heart, never looked her age and stayed active into her 90s. Friends loved her for her sense of humor and her easygoing personality. She made her home with her daughter in Stockholm for the last 12 years and attended Trinity Lutheran Church. Emmeline was predeceased by her husband, Phillip, in 1991; son, Peter in 1989; son, David in 2001; three brothers, Percy, Ray and Colby Clark; and two sisters, Marion Harmon and Norma Brewer. She is survived by daughter, Deborah Currier and son-in-law and caregiver, Chris Currier of Stockholm; son, Jeffrey Gregory of Naples; sister-in-law, Elaine Gregory of Belfast; grandchildren, Lauren Currier of Caribou, Russell Currier of Stockholm, Ashley Parker of Lyman, Melissa McKersie, Stephanie Doughty of Portland, James and Cathy Gregory of Casco, Kelley Stevens and Stacy Bartlett of Minot; daughter-in-law, Lori Gregory of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Linda Callison of Stockholm. A memorial service will be held at a later date in June. The date and time will be announced in a future edition of the Bangor Daily News by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Gregory may do so through Hospice of Aroostook or Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. www.mocklerfuneralhome.com.

STOCKTON SPRINGS - Helen B. Harrison, died at her home May 18, 2013. The daughter of Lewis Austin and Clara Louise (Mixer) Barrett, she was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Portovelo, El Oro, Ecuador, where her father was a mine foreman for the South American Development Company.
At the age of six months she came down the mountains for the first time and with her parents started the journey to their hometown in Maine. She spent her early years on a farm where she had fond memories of baby pigs and riding on the hay wagon. When she was 10, the family moved to town. She became active in Camp Fire Girls. Camping along the Penobscot River was a favorite activity. Helen received the rank of torchbearer three times, in literature, Indian lore and leadership. Helen attended Stockton Springs schools, graduating in 1932. She then attended Castine Normal School, graduating in 1934. Baked beans were her favorite meal served at the cafeteria. She often talked of walking from Castine to Penobscot to visit her cousins. After normal school, she taught in elementary schools in Stetson and Frankfort. In 1938 Helen married Roland D. Harrison who was to become her partner for more than 73 years. Their honeymoon to Quebec proved to be the first of many trips made in the early years of marriage as she often traveled to spend time with Roland when the ship he was on would be in a port on the east coast. During these years she also served as a Camp Fire leader. The birth of the first of her three children in 1942 marked the beginning of a new phase in her life. Her family was the most important of all things to her. She was known for her pies, especially blueberry. Summers found her putting a wide variety of vegetables that came from Roland's garden, on the supper table. Many of those vegetables were also canned or frozen for winter. Fourth of July was always a time for family and food, including the cookies that were always available for children and later grandchildren. When chores were done for the day, she would often be found in the kitchen reading. For 15 years, she served as a Girl Scout leader where she got to use and increase all the skills she had learned in Camp Fire Girls. Many local girls learned firebuilding and outdoor cooking skills thanks to her. In 1987 she suffered a devastating stroke. Within a year she had amazed both family and therapists with how well she regained her ability to take care of her home and family. For many more years she continued to enjoy visits from her children and grandchildren, planning for Christmas, the family cats, reading mysteries, watching the birds and chocolate.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; husband, Roland; brother, Herbert "Bud" Barrett; three half siblings, Louise, Sadie and Stuart "Bill" Barrett; and son-in-law, James A. Johnston. She is survived by children, Fred Harrison and wife, Gerry, of Round Rock, Texas, Nancy Johnston and partner, Charles Hennessey, of Windham and Kathy Harrison of Stockton Springs; grandchildren, Jeff Harrison of Leander, Texas, Greg Harrison and wife, Heather, of Trophy Club, Texas, Tanji Johnston and partner, Kent Simmons, of Freeport, Susan Parks and husband, Scott, of Goodyear, Ariz., and Brian Johnston and wife, Anna, of North Conway, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Colton and Topher Harrison of Trophy Club, Texas, Megan Ragucci of Freeport, Nicholas and Benjamin Parks of Goodyear, Ariz., and Myra and James Johnston of North Conway, N.H.
At Helen's request there will be no funeral or visiting hours. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast.
