DIXMONT - Woodrow Wilson Cottrell, 81, died unexpectedly June 14, 2013 at his Dixmont home. Woodrow was born April 9, 1932, in Dixmont, the son of Hervey and Lillian (Grant) Cottrell.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1954 to 1956. He married Evelyn Pinkerton in Newport, June 30, 1957. She predeceased him Dec. 1, 2009, after 52 years of marriage. "Woodie" as he was affectionately called, worked at Cummings Mill in Newport for more than 20 years as a carpet maker and installer. He was laid off from the mill and took this opportunity to return to school at Bangor High School and earn his High School Diploma of which he was very proud of. After earning his diploma "Woodie" returned to work and was employed at Allied Glass, in Bangor, as a glazier for many years. "Woodie" and Evelyn attended Glad Tidings Church in Bangor for many years. They always enjoyed going to the 1954 Newport High School reunions held at Gilman's Cottage in Newport. "Woodie" always enjoyed working in his gardens, he was always rebuilding his home, and he loved doing his yard work.

He is survived by his son and wife, Thomas and Lois Rowe of Dixmont; one brother, Hervey Cottrell of Dixmont; two granddaughters, Katie and Ben of Litchfield, Lindsey and Russ of Fairbanks, Alaska; several nieces and nephews, including special ones, Sandra and Skip Pierce and Rev. Bob Walton. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Mary Waning, Clara Walton and Melvin Murphy.

Friends may call 11 a.m. -noon Wednesday, June 19, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where funeral services will be at noon, with Rev. Ernest Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Simpson Corner Cemetery, Dixmont. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
