ETNA and YARMOUTH - Raymond H. Ayer Sr., 84, died July 23, 2013, at the Veterans Medical Center, Togus, after a long struggle with Asbestosis. Raymond was born May 3, 1929, in Bath, son of Percy R. and Marguerite Place Ayer.

Raymond was a World War II Army veteran. Raymond was a life long electrician working out of the IBEW Union 1253, Augusta. He worked locally throughout Maine and several other states. He enjoyed working out west as an electrician in the "big" coal mines in Wyoming. He enjoyed hunting, and watching westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies. He loved the Christmas season and all the special Christmas decorations. He was a member of the Yarmouth Masons and a member of Kora Shrine, Lewiston.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Ayer of Etna; two daughters, Valerie and Raylene of New Jersey; son, Ray Jr. of New Jersey; two stepsons, Tommy and Ronnie; and stepdaughter, Nancy. He was predeceased by his mother and father; two sisters; and brother. The family would like to say a special thank you to Bangor VA Clinic, Dr. "V," Terry and Raespha for their kindness.
Friends may call noon until time of service held 1 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. The Rev. Ernest Campbell will officiate. Committal prayers will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery, Yarmouth.
