CAMDEN - The Rev. R. Quentin Johnson, 92, formerly of Thomaston, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Anderson Inn, Quarry Hill, after a brief illness. Born March 20, 1920, in Somerville, Mass., he was the son of Axel T. and Ida Liljaroot Johnson, who were both immigrants from Smaland, Sweden. After moving to Arlington, Mass., in 1925, he was educated in local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Arlington High School. He was a 1942 graduate of Providence Bible Institute, Providence, R.I., and later Eastern Baptist College and Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He also attended summer sessions at Boston University, University of Maine and Garrett Biblical Institute at Northwestern University in Illinois. He married Sylvia T. Pryor, whom he met at Providence Bible Institute, at Ashland Baptist Church, Ashland, N.H., Sept. 19, 1942. The Rev. Johnson had served as pastor of churches in LaGrange, Cambridge, Presque Isle, Rockport, Spruce Head and Washington, as well as in Coventry, R.I. After retiring from the ministry, the Rev. Johnson was employed at Samoset Golf Course and as a bus driver for SAD 28. He also served as director of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties, 1976-1984. He is survived by his loving wife and four children and their families. They are Dwight and Lynn Johnson of Rockport, Dale and Angela Johnson of Spruce Head, Priscilla and Wayne Judkins of Thomaston, and Kate Johnson of Tenants Harbor. He also leaves six grandchildren, Peter and Emily Johnson of Rockport, Sam and Rachel Johnson of Spruce Head, and Matthew and Erin Judkins of Thomaston. The Rev. Johnson also leaves a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Elmer Johnson and his wife, Lillian; sister, Mildred Bing and her husband, Herbert; and brother, Edwin Johnson and his wife, Eva. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 2, at First Baptist Church of Rockland, 215 Limerock St., with the Revs. Robert Manning and Robert Bell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for the benefit of Helen Berry, retired missionary to Taiwan, care of First Baptist Church of Rockland, 215 Limerock St., Rockland, ME 04841.
