BLUE HILL - MAYNARD EUGENE ASTBURY, 89, died peacefully July 17, 2014 at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born September 30, 1924 in Blue Hill, the son of Richard L. and Maude (Blaisdell) Astbury. Maynard "Mike" Astbury graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1943. Immediately following graduation, Mike joined the US Navy along with his lifelong friend, Linwood Carter. Together, they served on the Destroyer, USS KNAPP, in the South Pacific during WWII.

Maynard married Mary McGraw after returning from the war in 1947 and celebrated 65 years of a very happy marriage. Mike was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Hill, The American Legion and was Road Commissioner for Blue Hill for 14 years. Mike spent many years working in all aspects of a logging and wood cutting operation. He was a much sought after sawyer for area sawmills and owned his own sawmill as well. He bought a local construction company in 1968 and began what became M. E. Astbury & Son, Inc., where he worked with his son,

Michael, until age 87. He was known for his work ethic and his commitment to honesty, integrity and fairness.

Mike was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary. At the time of his death, Maynard's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of the spouses numbered 70. Beyond the lives of his family, Mike's loving, compassionate, encouraging nature has touched the lives of many, many people, both young and old, throughout the places that he lived and visited during his life. Mike's devotion to the Lord has left a legacy of faith carried on by his family and friends.

Mike is survived by his 6 children and their spouses; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren: Daughter, Cherry Stanko and her husband Ron and their daughter, Samantha Jones and her husband Joshua, all of Blue Hill; Daughter, Terry Mattson and her husband Bruce, their children, Matthew and his wife Amy, their children, Max, Caden, and Julie, Katye LaCasse and her husband Jim, their children, Caleb, Colin, Colby and Cohen, all of Blue Hill, Brock Mattson and his wife Jessica, and their children, Madison and Keenan, of Surry, Chad Mattson and his wife Katie and their children, Crüe, Romy and Edie of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Leah Mattson of Blue Hill. Son, Michael Astbury and his wife Pat and their children, Shelly Schildroth and her husband Cory and their children, Taylor, Mya, and Chloe of Blue Hill, Michael and his wife Jess, and Josh and his wife Kim and their daughter Claire, all of Blue Hill, Daughter, Patty Clapp and her husband Rob, and their children, Sarah Clapp and her husband David Gribbin, of Okinawa, Mark Clapp and his wife Laura of Blue Hill, Lydia Hughey and her husband Aaron of Warrensberg, Missouri, and Anna Clapp of Blue Hill and Colorado, Daughter, Karen Doten and her husband Paul of Holden and their children, Eben Doten and his wife Whitney and their children, Cy and Liam of Bangor, Kalyn Griffin and her husband Josh and daughter Julianna of Eddington, and Alex Doten of Holden, Daughter, MaryAnn Lord and her husband

Kerry of Blue Hill and their children, Jasmine Arseneau and her husband Andrew and their daughter Arianna and soon to be baby Arseneau, of Ellsworth, Josiah Lord of Blue Hill, Kerisa Potter and her husband Christopher of Bangor, Abby Lord, Rachel Lord, and Bethany Lord all of Blue Hill. Mike is also survived by many nieces

and nephews, many friends and his faithful dog, Chloe.
