BRADENTON, Fla. - John D. Robinson, 87, passed away peacefully on Oct. 2, 2013, surrounded by family. He was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Howland, the son of Clinton and Leona Clark Robinson.

During World War II, John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, surviving 35 combat missions over Japan as a tail gunner on a B29 Super Fortress. He earned and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Bronze Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.

John graduated from Howland High School, Husson College, and the University of Maine at Orono. He also attended Rutgers University and the University of Michigan. He was an educator, an IRS agent, and held many positions in the financial services industry, including President and CEO of Firstbank in Farmington, Maine.

His many service-oriented activities included membership in the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, the Kora Shrine Temple of Lewiston, and the Horab Masonic Lodge of Lincoln as a 32nd Degree Mason. John also served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Maine System, the Board of Trustees of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Board of Directors of Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Farmington, and the Board of Directors of Palm Lake Estates Condominium Association of Bradenton, Fla.

Included in John's many interests were his great love of fishing, hunting, gardening, card playing, and visiting with friends and family. He was a generous man who spent much of his time helping people and taking care of his family. John felt lucky in life, family, and friends. He deeply loved this country, and greatly appreciated the opportunities afforded to him by being an American.

John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Beulah Moores Robinson; his children, Wesley Robinson and Karen, Judith Greco and Ronald, Donna Wells and Jeffrey, and Thomas Robinson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary and Alan; and sister, Donna.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Gerald and Claydene; and grandson, John.
