STETSON - Harry G. Horning Jr., 76, of 144 Burleigh Road, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center - Togus. He was born July 7, 1936, in Kittery, a son of the late Harry G. and Clara M. (Adams) Horning Sr. He was also raised by his stepfather, Arnold Horning.

He was a graduate of York High School and served in the Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. In his time with the Marine Corps, Sgt. Horning served in the evacuation of Beirut, Lebanon. Harry was a local builder and a commercial fisherman, and passed these trades on to his sons, Michael, who is a commercial fisherman and Daniel, who is a builder. He served as harbormaster in Perkins Cove in the years leading up to his retirement. Harry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed his camp, hunting and fishing, along with working in the woods with his sons, Mike and Dan; grandson, Wyatt; and many friends, notably Darren Seamans. After his retirement Harry retreated to his camp in Stetson, which he then called home, in order to fulfill his dream of working in the woods creating a hunting opportunity for his boys. He was a member of Harbormaster Association, Boardman-Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars and York Fish & Game Club.
He leaves two sons, Michael L. and companion, Carolyn Torrey, and Daniel D. Horning of Cape Neddick; daughter-in-law, Rachel Horning; the light of his life and grandson, Wyatt A. Horning; and two brothers, Russell Horning of Florida and James Horning of Kittery. A daughter, Wendy Jean Horning; brother, Clinton Horning; and two sisters, Jane Jacobs and Patricia Donnell, all predeceased him.
