HOULTON - Floyd Jackie Ketch, known to most as Jack, 78, died unexpectedly June 8th, 2014 in Houlton. Jack was born June 10, 1935 in Bath, NB, the son of James Arthur and Marjorie (Logan) Ketch.
Jack attended schools in New Brunswick before moving to Presque Isle where he was a 1953 graduate of Presque Isle High School. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany. During his time there, he was able to visit many places including Austria, Ireland, London, Switzerland and Paris. Following his military service, Jack decided to "go south" and moved to Houlton in 1959. There he met the love of his life, Georgia Holden, and they were married Sept. 17, 1960. They lovingly raised two daughters, Ginny and Nancy who he adored. Jack supported his family throughout his life. He worked for the Sherwin Williams Company for 33 years, managing the local store for 32 of them. He "retired" from Sherwin Williams in 1992 and went to work the next day at Fogg's. He was there for the transition to the S.W. Collins Company serving 17 years there and finally retiring in 2009 due to health reasons. He never wanted to retire and continued to stay in touch with his co-workers who had come to be great friends and appreciated that they continued to include him in company gatherings.
Family meant the world to Jack. His favorite activities involved times with family and close friends including holidays, barbeques or going out to eat. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren, Ben, Leah and Noah. He cherished his time with them. He loved being able to attend their many activities and always looked forward to their visits to Houlton.
Although he was not originally from Houlton, Jack became an active member of the community and considered Houlton his home. Early on he became involved in the Houlton Rotary Club and was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a former High Priest and served in the Commandry. He was a past president of the Houlton Chamber of Commerce, Retail Trade Board, Houlton Regional Hospital Board of Trustees and was currently serving as president of the Madigan Memorial Hospital and Aroostook General Hospital boards. He was a past chairman of the Houlton Regional Hospital Community Relations Committee, Houlton Board of Budget Review, a charter member of the Houlton Federal Credit Union and past chairman of the Credit Committee. He was a member of the Lion's Club, County CrimeStoppers and Salvation Army Board. He also served on the Houlton Town Council and was a lifetime member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks. In addition, he provided his service and time to the Unitarian Church and many other organizations.
Jack loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was always up for an adventure, whether big or small, right up until the end. He will be remembered for his sense of fun and humor and for his jokes and his teasing. He will also be remembered by many who "flipped" for a soda or bag of chips or those who participated in some other sort of "contest" with Jack. He will mostly be remembered for being a kind and generous man who always had smile on his face and love in his heart.
Jack is survived by his loving daughters, Jacqueline Virginia "Ginny" Ketch and her husband, Daryl Batoosingh, of Scarborough and Nancy Patricia Ketch of Houlton; his three precious grandchildren, Benjamin Edward Batoostingh, Leah Ann Batoosingh and Noah Jack Batoosingh, all of Scarborough; his sister, Phyllis Stitham of Fredericton, NB; his brother, Clyde "Bud" Ketch and his wife, Anne, of Windham; his brother-in-law, James Holden and his wife, Dale of Houlton, his sister-in-law, Mim Holden of Satellite Beach, FL; his special cousins, Charlene Wolhaupter of Houlton, Nancy Cockcroft of Scarborough, Doris Wolhaupter of New York and Tennesee, Patty Randall and her husband, Butch of Dickson, TN; Judy Martin and her husband, Jeff of Bloomfield, NY, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and his "neighborhood family" including the Hathaways and the Roaches.
